Jesus the Divine Teacher, by Monsignor Eugene Kevane, is an invaluable summary of information for all those who are responsible for catechetical instruction: bishops, priests, religious, lay teachers of CCD--and perhaps especially parents in their crucial efforts to raise their children in the Faith. The book explains clearly how the writings of the Prophets in the Old Testament, oftentimes separated by thousands of years apart, nevertheless coherently describe the coming of the Messiah, foretold the apparent contradictions in his person and in his life, and culminate in Jesus Christ who was to die an ignominious death on the Cross after founding his Chruch upon the Apostles.
Jesus Christ as God was the most effective Teacher ever to walk the face of the earth. There is none who can match him. This book will help the catechist use the teaching methods which Christ Himself used during his sojourn on earth. The catechetical teacher who will effectively present the truths of the Faith to his or her charges (children and adults) must continue to strengthen his or her personal devotion to Crhist, in order to speak from an abundance of spirituality and love for God. This book, in conjunction with its sequel, The Deposit of Faith: What the Catholic Church Really Believes, provides an unparalleled opportunity to the catechist and to all Catholics to deepen their understanding of their Faith and therefore enhance their spiritual lives.
