Most Rev. Thomas J. Tobin was born in Pittsburgh in 1948. Educated at St. Mark Seminary High School (Erie), St. Francis College (Loretto, PA), and the North American College (Rome), he was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Pittsburgh in 1973. Pope John Paul II appointed him Auxiliary Bishop of Pittsburgh in 1992. He was installed as Bishop of Youngstown in 1996. Bishop Tobin was named eighth Bishop of Providence by Pope John Paul II and was installed as Bishop on May 31, 2005 in Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral. Bishop Tobin is an Episcopal Advisor for Catholics United for the Faith

Bishop Tobin writes a popular column, "Without A Doubt," for his diocesan newspaper. The column received special recognition at the 1998 Catholic Press Association Convention, and in 2000 was selected as best in the nation. Bishop Tobin's articles have also appeared in other periodicals including New Covenant, Pastoral Life, The Priest, Lay Witness, Sacerdos, and Be.

Bishop Tobin continues his weekly column, "Without A Doubt", in the The Providence Visitor newspaper.
